Our Mission

The Regional Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at Old Westbury (RCASD Old Westbury) is a university-affiliated resource center that brings research and practice together in community settings. RCASD Old Westbury provides evidence-based training and support to families and professionals, and through ongoing research, contributes knowledge to the field of autism spectrum disorder.

Family Workshops

Although awareness of autism is spreading as more children are diagnosed, there are still many questions that need to be answered. As a parent of a child who has been diagnosed with ASD, you may have concerns about how to help your child become more independent. The Family Workshops are designed to assist families on their child’s journey from school-age to adulthood.

Conferences

Our center holds annual fall and spring professional development conferences led by national and local experts. These conferences emphasize the use of research-based methodologies for individuals with autism, their families and local district professionals. Professional development credit hours (CTLE and additional CEU hours) are offered at many of our conferences.

School District Workshops

These workshops are designed for school professionals that disseminate information on effective programs, including, but not limited to, individualized supports and services and specialized curricula designed to address the skill deficits of students with autism spectrum disorder (i.e. social relationships and communication).

The goal of the workshops are to provide participants with an understanding of essential components of educational programs to better prepare them to develop effective educational interventions for students with ASD.

Resource Center

Our telephone and email resource center responds to questions and offers referrals to local families, educators and community members.
