Join RCASD Old Westbury for a free autism-friendly performance of Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical! Families are invited to enjoy a sensory-considerate theater experience followed by free admission to explore the museum after the show.
Support Meeting: While the children enjoy the performance, additional parents/grandparents/caregivers are invited to attend an optional autism support session led by a behavior therapist. In this relaxed and informal setting, we’ll explore practical strategies for navigating challenging behaviors, supporting emotional regulation, and answering everyday questions families may have.
Guests attending the session will receive complimentary museum admission, though show tickets are not included.
Please note: All children must remain supervised in the theater by one family member or caregiver.
Important Registration Information:
Registration is required.
Theater tickets are limited to 2 per family.
Additional adult family members or caregivers attending the support meeting will receive free museum admission to join their family after the performance ends. Include these family members when registering.
About the Musical
Whatever you do, don't let the Pigeon star in his own musical production! With a script written by Mo Willems, the creator of the #1 New York Times bestselling, Caldecott Honor award-winning "Pigeon" picture books, and featuring music by Deborah Wicks La Puma (Elephant & Piggie's We Are in a Play!), Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical! is even more fun than staying up late and having a hot dog party!
It's not easy being the Pigeon— you never get to do ANYTHING! But when the Bus Driver has a crisis that threatens to make her passengers (gasp!) late, maybe that wily bird CAN do something.
Featuring an innovative mix of songs, and feathers, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! The Musical! is sure to get everyone's wings flapping.
This play was commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and was first produced at the Kennedy Center during the 2019-2020 season.
Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus is presented through special arrangement by LICM and Music Theatre International (MTI).
The performance runs approximately 1 hour.

Autism-Friendly Accommodations
This performance is designed to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for children with autism and their families. Sensitive theater performances include lighting and sound adjustments.
Sensory backpacks, noise reducing headphones, weighted lap-pads, fidget items and printed PCS cards are available for visitors at the LICM Box Office.
Visual Vocabulary Cards can be used for those who prefer to plan their Museum adventures ahead of time. These cards can be for those that might need assistance with transitions or communication and can be downloaded from the accessibility page of the LICM.org website.
